The Iloilo Provincial Government has alloted P5 million for the repair of the Moroboro hanging bridge in Barangay Moroboro, Dingle, Iloilo.
It has been a long-time concern of the residents in the area to rehabilitate the hanging bridge to ensure their safety, especially when travelling.
Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. said that he tried to find ways to include the hanging bridge in this year’s budget, as the status of the bridge really needed immediate repair.
Defensor added that it is important to not only prioritize the repair of big bridges, but also those small hanging bridges in some remote areas in the province.
“Maayo nga natalupangdan ina kay sang nagligad ang daku nga mga taytay ang ginapa-obra naton. Daw napabay-an ang gagmay nga taytay. Maayo nga may kahigayunan kita nga maga-obra kag mapuslan ina sang aton kasimanwa,” the governor said.
Defensor turned over the P5 million check to Remy Devera of Dingle Municipal Treasurer’s Office on Sept 28, 2022, as he is hoping that the rehabilitation of the hanging bridge will start as soon as possible.
The provincial government also entrusted to the Dingle local government the bidding process, project design, and construction of the hanging bridge.
The said hanging bridge is set to benefit the residents of barangays San Matias, Lico-an, and Poblacion, among others, once it is completed.
Defensor is also looking forward to prohibiting motorcycles and other types of vehicles from crossing the bridge to protect it, as it is supposedly just a footbridge.
“That is a foot bridge, dapat konserbatibo kita sina dira. Maayo kon indi pag-iduso ang limitasyon sang taytay, not only sang Moroboro but sang tanan nga hanging bridge naton sa province. Ang foot bridge is really for the people only,” the governor said.
