Guv: 2-day vaxx drive ‘very poor’

BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson expressed disappointment on the outcome of the first two days of the simultaneous province-wide inoculation on June 2 and 3.

The governor described it as “very poor” as only 7,318 were vaccinated or 27 percent of their target for that specific period.

On June 2, only 3,872 were vaccinated, and 3,446 more the next day.

But the towns of EB Magalona, Candoni, Ilog, Murcia, Pontevedra, San Enrique and the cities of Cadiz, Sagay and Silay exceeded their respective targets for the first week.

Negros Occidental has 31 municipalities and component cities, aside from highly urbanized Bacolod City.

The towns of EB Magalona, Candoni and San Enrique, as well as Sagay City, were among the seven local government units in Negros Occidental that were placed under Alert Level 1 until June 15.

Negros Occidental needs to vaccinate 70 percent of its target general population and 80 percent of the target senior citizens for its current Alert Level 2 status to be deescalated to Alert Level 1.

Negros Occidental’s remaining targets for vaccination against COVID-19 are 186,436 Negrenses and 51,310 senior citizens, as of May 28.

The province wide-initiated vaccination drive will resume on June 9, 10, 16, 17, 21, and 22.
