Authorities seized firearms and an explosive during a police raid early morning on March 5 in Barangay Cabungahan, Maayon, Capiz.
The operation resulted in the arrest of a 43-year-old suspect identified only as “Nante,” a local aluminum and glass installer.
Personnel from the Maayon Municipal Police Station, Capiz Police Provincial Office – Intelligence Unit, Capiz Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine Unit, and the 1st Capiz Provincial Mobile Force Company conducted the raid after receiving multiple complaints against the suspect.
Police executed two search warrants for violations of Republic Act 9516 (Illegal Possession of Explosives) and Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).
Recovered during the operation were a .38-caliber revolver loaded with three rounds of ammunition, a 5.56 homemade single-shot handgun, a hand grenade, and a 12-gauge shotgun shell.
According to the Maayon police, several residents had filed complaints against Nante for indiscriminate firing, particularly when he was intoxicated.
The suspect reportedly threatened people in the community and was allegedly seen displaying firearms on his dining table during a surveillance operation.
Nante, who has no prior arrests, is now in police custody and faces charges for violating RA 10591 and RA 9516.
