BACOLOD City – A man who was reportedly on the police drugs watchlist was gunned down by three unidentified perpetrators inside his bedroom at Barangay Alijis here Tuesday night.
Police identified the victim as 59-year-old Joeffrey Parandas, who was allegedly under monitoring by the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU).
Lieutenant Conrado Espino Jr., head of Police Station 7, said Parandas was eating dinner inside his room when two of the three perpetrators entered the house and shot him at close range.
“Naiwan kasi nung (adopted) na anak niya iyong gate na nakabukas nung pumunta ito sa computer shop,” he added.
The gunmen then fled with their companion who served as lookout.
The victim was with his two other adopted children and a baby inside the other room, but they were unharmed, the station commander said.
Espino said the victim succumbed to a lone gunshot wound in the head. Police recovered from the scene an empty shell and a slug of an unknown caliber.
Espino said the victim had not mentioned to his family that he had enemies prior to the killing.
“Na surveillance siya siguro kasi alam nila (gunmen) ang nasa loob ng bahay,” he added.
Espino said the motive of the killing is under investigation. He added that the victim was also known as a money lender, and sometimes a fixer of documents in some offices here.
