BACOLOD City – A brother of a shooting suspect was killed, while a tricycle driver was wounded after he was hit by a stray bullet at Carabalan road, Barangay III, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental last Wednesday.
Police identified the fatality as Clint John Canieso while the wounded was Ronald Gane, 48, of the said village.
Police Lieutenant Darryl Kuhutan, deputy chief for operations of Himamaylan City Police Station, said Charlie Canieso, 49, of Barangay 1, arrived at the area along with his brother Clint John.
When Charlie spotted his target – Roberto Montevilla – he allegedly drew a handgun.
But one of Montevilla’s companions parried Charlie’s hand as he was firing the gun, causing the bullet to hit Gane’s left arm.
“Pagbunot ni Charlie ng baril, natapik ng kasama ni Montevilla kaya instead na tumama kay Montevilla, kay Gane tumama,” Kuhutan said.
A commotion then followed when some bystanders in the area mauled Charlie, Kuhutan said.
Kuhutan said Clint John escaped when the commotion ensued, but he returned when he saw Charlie being mauled.
“Namukhaan siya (Clint John) siguro ng anak ni Montevilla na si Richard kaya nagka commotion rin silang dalawa until nakakuha ng kutsilyo itong si Richard,” Kuhutan said.
Richard then allegedly stabbed Clint John in his armpit twice, and fled, Kuhutan said.
Clint John was declared dead on arrival at a hospital, while Charlie and Gane are confined in a hospital.
Kuhutan said they are looking into grudges as possible motive behind the gun attack.
