A man wanted for rape was arrested after skirting the law for 16 years.
Framon Belandres Jr., 33, was arrested at his residence in Barangay Palaypay, Anilao, Iloilo late morning of March 19, 2020.
Members of the Anilao Police Station collared the suspect by virtue of an arrest warrant for rape in Criminal Case No. 2004-2841.
Police Lieutenant Glen Fortunes, Anilao police chief, said the case against Belandres was filed in 2004 while the warrant of arrest was issued the following year.
By that time, the suspect already left Anilao and stayed in Metro Manila for 16 years.
He went home to Iloilo last month “thinking that the case against him was already forgotten,” Fortunes said.
A caliber .357 revolver loaded with 6 ammunition in its cylinder was seized from Belandres. Another 10 pieces of ammunition were seized from his bag.
Fortunes said that another case for violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) will be filed against the suspect.
