BACOLOD City – A man who was subjected to a buy-bust operation against unauthorized selling of firearms escaped in front of the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) in Barangay 41 here yesterday.
According to Police Major Edgar Tonico Jr., chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Aklan, the suspect, whose name was withheld, allegedly fired a gun at the operatives. He missed.
Policemen did not retaliate, instead they chased the suspect until they reached the riverbank, but they failed to catch him, Tonico said.
Tonico said he could not reveal more details yet, as the hot pursuit operation is ongoing.
Last month, a policeman and two suspects were wounded in a shootout during the same operation led by the CIDG-Bacolod, along Circumferential road in Barangay Taculing here.
Investigation indicated that the suspects met with the CIDG operatives inside a sports utility vehicle (SUV) owned by the law enforcement agency. However, a commotion ensued when the suspects allegedly sensed that they were transacting with a policeman.
