Gun-running suspect captured after brief chase

BACOLOD City – Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Aklan arrested an alleged gun-running suspect hours after a brief chase occurred in front of the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) in Barangay 41 here last Tuesday.
According to Police Major Edgar Tonico Jr., chief of CIDG-Aklan, the suspect, who has yet to be identified, allegedly fired at the operatives during a buy-bust operation against the unauthorized selling of firearms. Fortunately, the policemen were not hit.
Policemen did not retaliate instead, they chased the suspect until they reached the riverbank, but they failed to catch him, Tonico said.
Hot pursuit operation was conducted until he was cornered at Purok 5, Barangay 41 later that night.
The suspect identified as a certain “Natoy,” was taken to the CIDG-Bacolod office for investigation and proper disposition prior to the filing of appropriate charges against him.
Last month, The CIDG-Bacolod figured in a shootout with two gun-running suspects in Barangay Taculing here. The two suspects and a policeman were wounded in the incident.
