A 31-day gun ban is now in effect across Guimaras province in connection with the Manggahan Festival 2026 and Guimaras’ 34th Provincehood Anniversary.
The suspension of all permits to transport and carry firearms outside residences in Guimaras runs from 12:01 a.m. May 1 to 11:59 p.m. May 31, 2026.
Maj. Lailyn Sencil, Police Regional Office 6 spokesperson, said the order was contained in a memorandum issued by Philippine National Police chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr.
PRO-6 received the memorandum on Monday, May 11.
The PRO-6 leadership sought the gun ban after a request from the Office of the Governor.
Sencil said the gun ban is longer than those imposed during other festivals because the province is celebrating two major events.
During the period, only members of the PNP, the Armed Forces of the Philippines and other law enforcement agencies performing official duties and wearing agency-prescribed uniforms are allowed to carry firearms.
Sencil said the restriction aims to ensure a firearm-free celebration and promote public safety.
She said the gun ban is part of PRO-6’s security measures to ensure the safe, peaceful and orderly conduct of all festival activities and public gatherings throughout the province.
PRO-6 encouraged the public to remain vigilant, cooperative and supportive in maintaining a safe and secure environment during this year’s festivities.
In case of emergencies, suspicious activities or imminent threats to safety, the public is advised to immediately report to the nearest police station, dial 911 or contact the appropriate PNP hotlines.
