MAAYON, Capiz – Ivan Howard A. Guintu formally took his oath of office Thursday morning, June 19, as the new representative of the 1st District of Capiz.
The oath was administered by Maayon Mayor Raymund D. Malapajo at the Maayon Civic Center.
It was witnessed by Guintu’s allied mayors from both the 1st and 2nd Districts of Capiz: Jonathan Sonny Besa of Panay, Arnold Perez of Pilar, Receliste Escolin of President Roxas, Jose Jimbo Barruela of Dao, and Felipe Neri Yap of Ivisan.
Also in attendance were former Capiz Governor Antonio Del Rosario and several other former and incumbent local officials from nearby towns.
Guintu expressed gratitude for the support of local officials and constituents in the 1st District who backed him during his tenure as a Pinuno Party-list representative.
He defeated his lone opponent, Paolo Roxas—son of former Sen. Mar Roxas—by around 40,000 votes.
With the 1st District now under Guintu’s leadership, Mayor Malapajo said he hopes more development will benefit not only Maayon but also the five other towns in the district and Roxas City.
Malapajo and his vice mayor, Dodoy Dapulaza, were unopposed in the last election.
Malapajo also serves as the current president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP)–Capiz chapter.
