The Province of Guimaras, through its Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), was recognized with a Gawad KALASAG Award for exemplary disaster preparedness, risk reduction, and community resilience efforts.
Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Teresita Siason accepted the award on behalf of the provincial government during the 24th Gawad KALASAG Awarding Ceremony on December 11, 2024, at Diversion 21 Hotel in Mandurriao, Iloilo City.
The province was rated Fully Compliant with the standards for the establishment and functionality of disaster risk reduction and management offices (DRRMOs) as prescribed in the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010.
In addition to the provincial office, all five Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices in Guimaras also earned the Gawad KALASAG seal as Fully Compliant.
The Gawad KALASAG Award is the highest recognition for disaster risk reduction and management in the Philippines.
It honors the efforts of local governments, non-government organizations, and other stakeholders in building safer, disaster-resilient communities.
