Guimaras now halfwayin geotagging of buildings, economic areas

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Guimaras Provincial Statistical Office is currently conducting the 2021 Updating of Geotagged Building Structures and Geotagging of Economic Areas in the municipalities of Buenavista and Jordan, the pilot areas for Guimaras.

The geotagging has not reached 59.46% of the provincial target as of September 29, 2021.

The tagging started August 16, 2021, is expected to end on October 15.

“This undertaking primarily involves the digitization, updating, validation, and processing of geotagged building structures, boundaries, and economic areas, Provincial Statistics Officer, Nelida B. Losare said.

“This activity likewise includes the conduct of field data collection activities and evaluation of the processed maps,” she added.

The goal of this activity is to establish updated geographical and census information of geotagged buildings, establishments, economic areas, and boundaries in Guimaras province.

“The output of this activity will serve as inputs for future endeavors in surveys such as agricultural and establishment-based surveys and other activities of the PSA,” she said.

The activity covers municipalities of Buenavista and Jordan, wherein the Map Data Collectors (MDCs) have been equipped with a handheld tablet device to update the geotagged building structures, validate the boundaries in the barangays, and digitize five selected economic areas in two municipalities.

PSA-Guimaras hired two (2) Map Data Screeners (MDSs) to prepare the materials for the activity, assist during the 3rd level training, and finalize the updated geotagged building structures and economic areas while the two (2) Map Data Collectors (MDCs) shall update the geotagged building structures based on the data collected in the field and validates economic areas and boundaries.

“The strict implementation on surgical lockdowns and the no crossing of borders are the primary hindrances for our enumerators and geotagging personnel to complete their outputs on time,” Losare said.
