The Provincial Government of Guimaras (PGG) inaugurated and blessed three new rescue vehicles on October 15, 2024, funded by the province’s Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) award.
The event, held at the Congressional Hall in Jordan, Guimaras, marked a significant step in enhancing the province’s disaster response capabilities.
The vehicles were purchased using the PHP 4 million prize awarded to Guimaras for achieving the 2023 SGLG.
An additional PHP 600,000 was provided by the provincial government to complete the acquisition.
Vice Governor John Edward G. Gando emphasized that the vehicles symbolize the province’s commitment to excellence and good governance.
“This is the fruit of our quest for excellence. These were given to us because we passed the highest standard of governance imposed by the national government,” Gando said. “This will be our commitment to our people and our province, that we will serve them with utmost transparency and always strive for excellence in the government.”
Governor JC Rahman A. Nava echoed the vice governor’s sentiments, thanking partner agencies such as the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) for their support.
He also praised the cooperation of provincial officials and employees, highlighting their role in securing the SGLG seal.
“I believe it will never be just a matter of receiving SGLG, but we are looking forward that these practices will be part of our day-to-day life, part of our day-to-day activities,” Nava said.
DILG Region 6 Assistant Regional Director Maria Calpiza J. Sardua, CESO IV, also lauded Guimaras for its dedication to good governance.
“We are here for a more important celebration, and that is the celebration of good governance,” Sardua said.
She noted that the SGLG looks at compliance in ten areas of governance, and Guimaras passed because of its effective administration.
The three new rescue vehicles will bolster the province’s capacity to respond to emergencies, a critical step in uplifting the quality of life for the people of Guimaras.
DILG-Guimaras Provincial Director Roselyn B. Quintana also attended the ceremony.
