The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Guimaras Provincial Statistical Office reported diverse market value trends in the average retail prices of bangus, galunggong and tilapia in the province during the first phase of December 2025 (Dec. 1 to 5).
“The data were generated from the Retail Price Survey (RPS) of Selected Commodities, which serves as input to the computation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI),” Provincial Statistics Officer Nelida B. Losare said.
At the provincial level, a kilogram of bangus consistently recorded an average retail price of PHP 225 during the first phase of December 2025 and the second phase of November 2025 (Nov. 15 to 17).
“This was lower than the average retail price of PHP 230 per kilogram in the first phase of November 2025 covering the first five days of the month,” Losare said.
“Compared with the prices from the previous year, this was higher than both first phase of December 2024 (01 to 05 December 2024) and second phase of December 2024 (15 to 17 December 2024) at PHP 200 per kilogram,” she added.

The average retail price of galunggong in Guimaras was recorded at PHP 235 per kilogram during the first phase of December 2025.
“This was higher than the PHP 220 per kilogram average price posted in both phases of November 2025 and markedly above the PHP 200 per kilogram average price recorded in both phases of December 2024,” Losare said.
A kilogram of fresh tilapia in the province had an average retail price of PHP 160 for the first phase of December 2025, comparable to its average retail price during both phases of November 2025.
“In contrast, this was lower relative to its price levels of PHP 165 per kilogram in the first and second phase of December 2024,” Losare said.


REGIONAL COMPARISON
The regional average price for bangus in Western Visayas was PHP 232.50 per kilogram, higher than both phases for November 2025 and December 2024 prices.
Among the five provinces in Western Visayas, Guimaras recorded the second-lowest average retail price per kilogram for bangus at PHP 225, just above Aklan at PHP 180 per kilogram. The highest average retail price of bangus was recorded in Capiz at PHP 260.
“This was followed by Antique and Iloilo City at PHP 250 each, and Iloilo province at PHP 230,” Losare said.

The regional average price of galunggong decreased to PHP 253.46 per kilogram from PHP 260.13 in the second phase of November 2025 but was higher than the average price during the first phase of November 2025 and both phases of December 2024.
The lowest average retail price per kilogram of galunggong during the first phase of December 2025 was recorded in Aklan at PHP 199.09, while the highest was noted in Iloilo City at PHP 286.67 per kilogram.

The regional average price for tilapia stood at PHP 183.28 per kilogram, comparable to the second phase of November 2025.
“The figure was higher compared to the recorded prices during the first phase of December 2024 and November 2025 but is significantly lower than the PHP 185.72 during the second phase of December 2024,” Losare said.
The average retail price per kilogram for tilapia in the first phase of December 2025 showed the lowest price in Aklan at PHP 120 per kilogram, followed by Guimaras at PHP 160 per kilogram, and the highest in Iloilo at PHP 213.50 per kilogram.
The Retail Price Survey is conducted by the PSA across all provinces to monitor price movements of basic commodities. The data collected feeds into the computation of the Consumer Price Index, which is the government’s primary measure of inflation at the national and regional levels. Bangus, galunggong and tilapia are among the most commonly consumed fish varieties in the Philippines and serve as key protein sources for Filipino households.
