The event aimed to equip electrical technology students with foundational knowledge of solar energy systems and installation practices.
The seminar’s primary goals were to introduce participants to the basics of solar power, explain how solar systems operate, and provide hands-on experience in system installation.
A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was also signed between GSU and Solar Tech Power during the training to formalize their collaboration.
The sessions featured both theoretical lectures and practical demonstrations led by Solar Tech’s engineering experts.
Engr. Denzel Clarito, Solar Tech’s chief engineer, facilitated key lectures alongside senior photovoltaic (PV) engineers Engr. Jose Balume and Engr. Doneire Parcon.
Solar Tech consultant Engr. Artchil B. Fernandez delivered sessions on climate change, types of renewable energy, the just energy transition, and the sociology of blackouts.
The company’s ongoing solar initiatives were also introduced to participants as part of the broader context for renewable energy education.
Dr. Julius T. Vergara, GSU vice president for research, extension, training, and innovation, delivered a message on behalf of university president Dr. Lilian Diana B. Parreño.
Dean Condrado S. Calumpita of the College of Engineering and Industrial Technology gave the opening remarks to formally start the program.
“The purpose of this seminar-training is to empower students with industry-relevant skills in solar energy,” said Prof. Michael M. Occeña, faculty extensionist.
Instr. Marin Dexter L. Ejar, program head of BIT/Bend Tech-MT, closed the activity with final remarks.
