GSIS Allocates PHP 8.6B for Emergency Loans

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has earmarked nearly PHP 8.6 billion in emergency loans for 363,547 active members and pensioners affected by recent typhoons.
The application deadlines vary by location. In Isabela, the deadline is Jan. 4. For Ifugao, Nueva Vizcaya, and the towns of Burgos and Bautista in Pangasinan, the deadline is Jan. 5.
Members and pensioners in Cagayan can apply until Jan. 16, while applications in Albay close on Jan. 23. Deadlines in Batangas, Camarines Norte, and Catanduanes are set for Jan. 28.
For Quezon Province (excluding Lucena City), Camarines Sur, Laguna, and the city of Naga, as well as Juban, Bulan, Irosin, Barcelona, Donsol, Matnog, and Castilla in Sorsogon, and San Fernando in Masbate, the deadline is Jan. 30.
In Sorsogon City and other areas, including Bacon, Casiguran, Bulusan, Magallanes, Santa Magdalena, Gubat, Prieto Diaz, and Pilar, applications have been extended until Feb. 5. The municipalities of Pio V. Corpuz and Uson in Masbate have deadlines on Feb. 12 and Feb. 21, respectively.
Eligibility Criteria
Active members may apply if they:
- Work or reside in areas declared under a state of calamity.
- Have no overdue loans or pending administrative or criminal cases.
- Are not on unpaid leave.
- Have paid at least six months of premiums prior to application.
- Have a net monthly take-home pay of at least PHP 5,000 after deductions.
Old-age and disability pensioners residing in calamity areas may also apply if their net basic monthly pension is at least 25% after loan deductions.
Loan Details
Qualified members with existing emergency loans may borrow up to PHP 40,000 to settle previous balances and receive a maximum net amount of PHP 20,000. Those without existing loans may apply for up to PHP 20,000. Pensioners may also apply for a PHP 20,000 loan.
The loan carries a 6% annual interest rate, no service fee, and a three-year repayment period. It includes redemption insurance, waiving the balance in case of the borrower’s death, provided payments are current.
Application Process
Applicants can submit loan requests through the GSIS Touch mobile app, available on Google Play and the Apple App Store. Loan proceeds are electronically credited to borrowers’ eCards or UMID cards.
