A man was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm afternoon of January 12, 2021 in Calinog, Iloilo.
Lieutenant Jorge Lenantud, Calinog deputy police chief, identified the suspect as Charlie Lavilla, 44, of Barangay Pajo, Lambunao, Iloilo.
Reports said that Lavilla went to a grocery store in Barangay Libot. But he allegedly claimed to have forgotten to leave his handgun.
The suspect obligingly deposited his firearm with the grocery store’s security personnel.
The police were then alerted as Lavilla failed to present valid papers for his gun.
Responding cops waited until he went out of the store and retrieved his caliber .22 revolver loaded with two live ammunitions.
Lenantud said Lavilla failed to present a license to own and possess firearm (LTOPF) and other pertinent documents.
Lavilla also didn’t explain why he carried a gun.
Lenantud said Lavilla admitted that he was detained for a robbery case in 2015. He was released on probation in 2019.
The suspect is now detained and will be charged for violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).
