A grenade was lobbed at a laborer’s house in Janiuay, Iloilo late evening of Jan. 17, 2020. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
The fragmentation grenade exploded in the front yard of Anthony Bantay, 48, of Sitio School Site, Barangay Guadalupe.
Police Captain Dadje Delima, Janiuay police chief, said the shrapnel only damaged Bantay’s cooking pot and an old white Honda Civic sedan.
Bantay was with his wife and four children when the explosion occurred.
The family was eating dinner during the attack.
Delima said Bantay claimed to have heard a motorcycle pass by and only peeped through the window for a couple of seconds. Shortly later, he heard the explosion.
Delima believed the assailant had no plans of harming the family.
“The intention could have been to warn or threaten the family,” he said.
Bantay already provided investigators with information on persons of interest and possible motives for the attack.
Delima said the motive could be personal grudges but he did not go into details.
