BACOLOD City – A hand grenade exploded near the house of a village councilman at Barangay Lina-on, Cauayan, Negros Occidental on Thursday night.
Police Major Lowell Garinganao, town police chief, said three gunshots were heard first before the explosion past 9 p.m.
Garinganao said Kagawad Policronio Tabu-Tabu was sleeping after having a drinking spree with some of his friends inside his house, when an unidentified man allegedly threw a grenade beside the highway, few meters away from the barangay official’s house.
No injuries were reported and no property was damaged after the blast.
They immediately called the assistance of the Army’s 15th Infantry Battalion and the police for investigation.
Garinganao said that no witnesses could testify on the incident.
He said that Tabu-Tabu has no threats which could be linked to the explosion.
He said that the disturbance caused by the drinking session of the victim and his companions probably triggered the incident.
