ILOILO CITY — A family in Passi City, Iloilo, is mourning the deaths of two relatives, a 13-year-old boy who suffered a fatal gunshot wound and his 65-year-old grandfather, who reportedly went into cardiac arrest shortly after discovering the teenager’s body on Saturday morning, Oct. 17.
The victims were identified only by the aliases “Rey,” a Grade 9 student, and “Lino,” his grandfather.
According to initial reports, Lino and the teenager’s aunt were at the lanai of their house around 8 a.m. when they heard a gunshot.
The two immediately checked where the sound had come from.
Upon entering Rey’s room, they found the teenager with a gunshot wound.
Personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) immediately rushed the boy to Don Valerio Palmares Sr. Memorial District Hospital in Passi City.
However, the teenager did not survive.
Shortly afterward, Lino reportedly suffered cardiac arrest.
The grandfather also died despite efforts to save him.
A Scene of the Crime Operations (SOCO) team was requested to process the area where the shooting occurred.
However, the family reportedly declined the request, believing that no foul play was involved.
Authorities recovered a .45-caliber pistol belonging to Lino at the scene.
The firearm’s license had reportedly expired, and its renewal was being processed.
Investigators also recovered a notebook containing what was believed to be a letter written by Rey.
The firearm and notebook were secured for proper documentation, investigation and disposition.
Authorities have yet to establish the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death.
The reported cause of the grandfather’s death also remains subject to medical confirmation.
