BACOLOD CITY — A 55-year-old job order employee may face frustrated murder charges for allegedly shooting and injuring a security guard in Barangay Paraiso, Sagay City, Negros Occidental, late Saturday night.
Police identified the victim as “Aguilar,” 45, a resident of the village.
Police Lt. Col. Alvimar Flores, chief of the Sagay City Police Station, said the victim was drinking at his home with his brother-in-law and a friend, while the suspect, identified as “Ricky,” was also drinking nearby with two companions around 11:30 p.m.
Investigation showed the victim’s brother-in-law allegedly provoked the suspect by challenging him to a fistfight.
The suspect then went to the victim’s house armed with a .45-caliber pistol and fired shots.
The victim’s companions managed to flee, but he was hit in the left leg and is now recovering in a hospital.
Police arrested the suspect, who surrendered a .45-caliber military-type pistol with a serial number, a magazine inserted, and two additional magazines loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition.
Authorities said the suspect could not present valid documents for the firearm and ammunition.
Flores said investigators are looking at grudges as a possible motive in the attack.
