ROXAS CITY, Capiz – A member of the Roxas City Emergency Response Team (RCERT) who fell off a bridge Saturday night, April 12, in Barangay Tiza was found dead the following morning.
The body of alias “Dandan,” 50, of Barangay Punta Tabuc, was discovered floating in the Panay River by members of the Philippine Coast Guard and volunteer rescuers.
Police reports said the victim was on his way home from Barangay 1 when the motorcycle he was riding crashed into the barrier of Tiza Bridge, causing him to fall into the river.
The motorcycle was found on top of the bridge.
Reports indicated the victim was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
It was learned that he had been drinking with a co-worker in Barangay 1 before heading home.
RCERT members and other volunteer groups launched a search and rescue operation Saturday night but were forced to halt the effort due to poor visibility.
Search and retrieval operations resumed the following morning.
