Government troops recovered a high-powered firearm and assorted belongings in Jamindan, Capiz, on the afternoon of June 16.
The area, identified as Sitio Naatip in Barangay Lahug, Tapaz, is believed to be an abandoned hideout of the New People’s Army.
Joint elements of the Army’s 12th Infantry Battalion and the PNP’s 62nd Special Action Company of the 6th Special Action Battalion discovered the site during a combat operation.
The raid was conducted following reports of NPA remnants in the area.
Authorities found the hideout with various items believed to have been left behind by the rebels.
Recovered items included tents, CPP and Bagong Hukbong Bayan flags, a power bank, backpacks, a hammock, medical paraphernalia and other personal belongings.
Further clearing operations led to the discovery of an arms cache about 200 meters from the hideout.
It contained an M16 rifle with a magazine loaded with ammunition.
The leadership of the 3rd Infantry Division praised the 12IB and 6SAB for their successful joint anti-insurgency operation.
“The abandoned hideout and arms cache strongly suggest the dwindling strength of the CTG remnants in Tapaz,” said Maj. Gen. Michael Samson, commander of the Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division.
He added that continued military efforts and community vigilance have kept NPA forces on the run, forcing them to abandon war matériel.
“We remain fully committed to neutralizing the remaining NPAs and achieving their complete downfall—a crucial step toward lasting peace and progress in Tapaz and across Western Visayas,” Samson said.
He also urged residents to stay vigilant and continue supporting security operations.
