Golfer makes history as first-ever Japanese to win a major title

It was one of the most memorable things to happen in the entire sports of Japan.

After four hours of heart-pounding and mental warfare, Hideki Matsuyama of Japan can finally call himself a golf men’s major title winner after reigning supreme during the recently concluded Masters golf circuit at Augusta, Georgia.

‘Hopefully I will be a pioneer in this and many other Japanese will follow,’ shared Matsuyama after pulling off the historic major campaign.

The Japanese golfer registered the championship-clinching victory after converting on a 1-over-par 73 to finish the entire contest at 10-under 278.

Matsuyama entered the final round holding a four-shot lead and was able to hang on and protect the much-needed advantage to also nab his first international win in four years.

24-year-old rising star Will Zalatoris came in at second place with a 9 under score, followed by Xander Schauffle and 2015 champion Jordan Spieth who were both tied for third place.

“I’m glad to be able to open the floodgates, hopefully, many more will be able to follow me,” added the legendary Japanese golfer.
