Globe boosts Silliman connectivity, student leadership at Hibalag

DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental — Globe deployed additional mobile network capacity at Silliman University’s Hibalag Festival 2026 while providing leadership training and grants to student leaders.
Hibalag, a Visayan term associated with meeting or coming together, is a longstanding Silliman Founders Day tradition featuring student organization booths, activities and homecoming events that bring together students, alumni and other members of the university community.
The festival formed part of Silliman University’s 125th Founders Day celebration in 2026, marking the institution’s founding in 1901.
To accommodate increased network demand during major festival events, Globe deployed a cell site on wheels, or COW, at the Hibalag grounds.
Globe said the temporary facility supplemented its network across Dumaguete City, where more than 40 cell sites provide coverage to approximately 92% of the city’s population.
The telecommunications company said 5G services were also available, allowing students, alumni and visitors to stay connected during the festival.
“Hibalag is an important tradition for the Silliman community. We are glad to support this tradition through reliable connectivity and programs that help young people lead and contribute to their communities,” said Jun Juada, Globe business area head for Western Visayas.
Beyond connectivity, Globe worked with Silliman students through its Win The Youth program, which provides leadership training and grants to help student leaders develop campus initiatives.
The program also gave students opportunities to build their skills, collaborate with peers and take a more active role in university life.
Globe also set up experiential booths and activities for students, alumni and visitors during the festival.
Silliman students and other Globe customers in Dumaguete were offered Go5G Turbo 50, a localized data offer.
Festivalgoers could also redeem one Globe Rewards point through the GlobeOne app for free ice cream at the company’s booth.
Globe said its participation in Hibalag combined network support during one of Silliman’s major traditions with programs aimed at giving student leaders resources to turn their ideas into campus initiatives.
