ROXAS CITY, Capiz – A 12-year-old girl died from drowning in a brook at Sitio Uno Agtinapay, Brgy. Ilaya-Ivisan, in Ivisan Capiz Tuesday afternoon.
The victim and four fellow minors decided to take a bath in the brook amid the rain.
According to one of the minors, the strong water current dragged the victim towards a tunnel of an overflow bridge.
The other minors tried to rescue the victim but were unable to do so because of the strong current.
The victim was also trapped inside the bridge’s tunnel because of bamboo leaves and branches that were stuck in the hole.
The minors sought assistance from the residents and a certain Mark Aloren Perez, 24, came in to rescue the victim.
Few minutes later, the Ivisan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) arrived and took the victim to the rural health unit where she was declared dead on arrival.
