German companies are ramping up efforts to partner with Philippine stakeholders in the renewable energy sector, eyeing opportunities in smart grid technologies, storage systems, and clean energy generation.
The renewed push was formalized during a high-level energy conference held June 24 at Shangri-La Makati, organized by the German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GPCCI) in collaboration with the Renewable Energy Association of the Philippines (REAP).
The event formed part of the “Energy Solutions – Made in Germany” program, a week-long initiative supported by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy aimed at strengthening international cooperation in the clean energy sector.
Around 70 delegates—including German small and medium enterprises (SMEs), local industry leaders, and Philippine government officials—gathered to explore partnerships and technology deployment opportunities.
In her keynote speech, Department of Energy Undersecretary Rowena Guevara stressed the importance of smart grid systems and energy storage in achieving the country’s decarbonization goals.
“Our drive for energy transition will not only build sustainable energy infrastructure for future generations, but also reap the economic benefits of retaining a highly skilled workforce in the country,” Guevara said.
GPCCI Vice President Tristan Arwen G. Loveres reported that the event facilitated 68 business-to-business (B2B) meetings aimed at connecting German technology providers with Philippine energy developers.
Among the German companies participating were Bae Batterien, Blueberry Energy, Fitchtner GmbH, H2 Core Systems, Reprocon GmbH, SkySails Power, and SMA Altenso GmbH.
GPCCI President Marie Antoniette Mariano underscored the strategic nature of the mission, citing Germany’s long-term commitment to partnerships with real economic and environmental impact.
“This mission reflects Germany’s commitment to building lasting partnerships in sectors with real impact,” Mariano said.
Germany is a global leader in clean energy technologies, and the Philippines is one of Southeast Asia’s most promising markets due to its renewable energy targets—35% by 2030 and 50% by 2040—and growing demand for energy security.
The GPCCI, which represents over 300 German companies in the Philippines, continues to support market entry, expansion, and policy engagement for German firms in sectors such as energy, infrastructure, and manufacturing.
