G-Plaza brings a new retail pulse to Zambales

Dr. Pacita Trinidad-Gonzalez, second from right, leads the ceremonial ribbon-cutting for G-Plaza Community Mall with local and provincial officials during the mall’s inauguration in San Marcelino, Zambales.
The stretch of National Highway in San Marcelino, Zambales, took on the energy of a new town center as G-Plaza Community Mall opened its doors, bringing together local officials, business leaders, medical professionals and members of the Gonzalez family for its inauguration and blessing.
More than a commercial opening, the occasion marked another investment by former Zambales 2nd District Rep. Dr. Pacita Trinidad-Gonzalez and her family, extending a business legacy built with the late statesman Raul M. Gonzalez Sr. G-Plaza is the family’s third mall investment, envisioned as a neighborhood destination where essential services, dining and retail sit under one roof.
Joining Gonzalez were her sons Dennis Gonzalez and former Iloilo City lone district Rep. Atty. Raul T. Gonzalez Jr., underscoring the family character of the milestone.
The mall’s mix reflects its community-first positioning. Food establishments and coffee shops share space with a drugstore, hardware store and bank, while a dialysis center brings a vital health service closer to residents. Other commercial spaces broaden the property’s appeal as a practical, everyday hub rather than simply another retail complex.
Global Maritime Ship Management President and CEO Capt. Relly Jose Jr. was among the prominent guests, with the company leasing nearly half of G-Plaza’s commercial space. His presence highlighted the private-sector partnerships underpinning the development.
Local government leaders likewise turned out in force. San Marcelino officials joined Gonzalez for the ceremonial ribbon-cutting, alongside visiting officials and representatives of the provincial government. Botolan Mayor Omar Ebdane attended as representative of Gov. Hermogenes Ebdane Jr., while doctors from San Marcelino District Hospital and representatives of BDO Network Bank added to the gathering’s mix of civic, medical and business stakeholders.
Rev. Fr. Orlando B. Correa officiated the blessing rites, lending the opening a quieter ceremonial note amid the bustle of the new commercial center.
For San Marcelino Mayor Omar Soria, the investment carries significance beyond new storefronts. He thanked G-Plaza’s management for its confidence in the municipality, saying the mall and bank would create opportunities for residents, entrepreneurs and other sectors while signaling the town’s continuing development.
His message returned to a familiar civic refrain: “Education… Respect… Sincere service for you… MARCELINEANS!”
The opening also reflected the evolving role of community malls in provincial growth. Rather than relying on scale alone, G-Plaza brings together services that residents often travel elsewhere to access — from banking and health care to dining, shopping and everyday necessities.
That mix gives the project its real promise. G-Plaza may have opened with a ribbon, a blessing and a gathering of familiar names, but its long-term measure of success will be found in the daily life it creates around it: jobs filled, businesses sustained, services made more accessible and a local economy given more room to move.
