Maasin, Iloilo native Karen Nicole Piccio is ready to take on the national stage as she was officially introduced as Miss Universe Philippines 2025 – Iloilo City during her send-off event on Feb. 10 at Jardin Mediterranean Cuisine, Riverside Boardwalk in Smallville, Iloilo City.
During the event, Piccio unveiled her new environmental advocacy, Sustainability on the Utilization of Biospheric Activities (SUBA), which emphasizes ecological conservation and responsible resource management.
SUBA replaces her previous campaign, Watershed Awareness to Ensure Responsibility and Sustainability (WATERS), which focused on river dam protection and eco-tourism.
“The beauty of the Iloilo River is not just for us Ilonggos. It is actually renowned as a prime example of what a beautiful and healthy river should be, even in the midst of the city,” Piccio said.
She highlighted the thriving mangroves along the river as a testament to local ecological efforts.
Piccio shared that she is 90% prepared for the competition, leaving room for improvement as the event approaches.
She acknowledged the challenges of competing on the national stage but expressed confidence in her advocacy and preparation.
“I believe I have what it takes to win Miss Universe Philippines,” she said, adding that while there is pressure, her focus remains on her training and advocacy.
Piccio extended her gratitude to her supporters, including her family, her team, the Iloilo City Government, Miss Iloilo organizers, and the Ilonggo community.
A painter, content creator, model, and host, Piccio is a Political Science graduate of the University of the Philippines Visayas.
She previously won Miss Philippines Earth Eco-Tourism 2019 and was First Runner-Up in Miss Manila 2023.
