BACOLOD City – Four senior citizens were killed after a pick-up truck rammed into a mini store at Barangay Bae, Jimalalud, Negros Oriental yesterday.
Police identified the fatalities as Lydia Garsula, 80, and Remedios Fabillar, 65, both residents of Barangay Panglaya-an; Herminilda Gantalao, 76, of Barangay Tamao; and Milagros Garsula, 82, of Barangay Bae.
Based on a report released by Chief Master Sergeant Edilberto Euraoba III, public information officer of Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (Norppo), the victims were drinking coffee when an Isuzu Dmax driven by 62-year-old Robert Lim of Barangay North Poblacion, a businessman, crashed into the store.
The victims were sprawled on the ground while the others fell into a canal.
Two of the victims were taken into Jimalalud Rural Health Unit, where they were declared dead, while the other two victims were rushed to Guihulngan City District Hospital, where they also died.
Lim was taken to Ace Medical Doctors in Dumaguete City.
