Four relatives arrested in PHP 1 million Pototan drug sting

ILOILO CITY — Four members of a family were arrested following a police anti-narcotics operation late Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 2, in Pototan, Iloilo.
Police identified the suspects as alias “Boyboy,” 31; alias “Abog,” 50; alias “Bo,” 59; and alias “JJ,” 27, all residents of Barangay Rumbang, Pototan.
Another suspect, identified as alias “Romy,” evaded arrest.
Boyboy and Romy were the main targets of the operation, while Abog allegedly worked for them.
Boyboy is Abog’s nephew, Bo is Boyboy’s father, and JJ is Boyboy’s brother.
Abog and Bo are brothers.
The four arrested suspects are also related to Romy.
Members of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office-Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit, together with the IPPO Provincial Intelligence Unit and Pototan Municipal Police Station, carried out the buy-bust operation at Romy’s house.
Boyboy, Abog, and Romy allegedly conspired to sell a sachet of suspected shabu worth PHP 16,500 to an undercover police officer.
Police also seized five more sachets of suspected shabu and several nondrug items.
Police Maj. Dadje Delima, IPPO-PDEU chief, said the seized drugs weighed around 152 grams and had an estimated value of PHP 1,033,600.
Before Romy could be arrested, he allegedly went to the back portion of his house, destroyed bamboo slats, and fled.
Delima said Bo and JJ allegedly tried to prevent police officers from arresting the suspects.
Police said none of the suspects had previous drug-related arrests.
Authorities said the suspects allegedly sourced their drug supply from known drug personalities in Jaro, Iloilo City, and other parts of Iloilo province.
Their alleged distribution areas included the towns of Mina, Dingle, and Pototan.
Police said all five suspects would face appropriate charges for alleged violations of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Bo and JJ would also face charges related to resistance and disobedience to authorities and obstruction of justice, police said.
