Four nabbed, three flee in PHP 1.56 million Estancia sting

ILOILO CITY — Four people were arrested while three others escaped during an anti-drug operation Tuesday evening, Sept. 1, in Estancia, Iloilo, that yielded about 230 grams of suspected shabu valued at PHP 1.564 million.
Police identified the arrested suspects only as alias “Panggoy,” 36, of Barangay Daan Banwa, Estancia; alias “Maymay,” 39, of Barangay Zone 2, Estancia; alias “Toto,” 20, of Zone 1, Estancia; and alias “Toytoy” of Barangay Pa-on, Estancia.
Meanwhile, alias “Toto,” 29, a local government employee and resident of Zone 2, Estancia; alias “Alfie” of Barangay Pa-on, Estancia; and alias “Dodoy” of Barangay Malbog, Balasan, escaped and remained at large as of this writing.
Members of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office-Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit Team 3, in coordination with the Estancia Municipal Police Station, launched the operation after the suspects allegedly conspired to sell a sachet of suspected shabu for PHP 14,000 to an undercover officer.
The buy-bust operation was conducted at Purok Paghidaet, Barangay Poblacion Zone 2, Estancia.
A search following the arrests yielded two more sachets and two knot-tied plastic packs containing suspected shabu, along with several non-drug items.
Police Maj. Dadje Delima, IPPO-PDEU chief, said the seized drugs weighed about 230 grams and had an estimated value of PHP 1.564 million.
Police said Panggoy and Maymay, both classified as high-value drug personalities, were the targets of the operation.
The suspects allegedly sourced their illegal drug supply from Iloilo City and Capiz province.
Delima said the successful buy-bust operation resulted from focused and sustained intelligence gathering, target validation, surveillance, and close coordination between confidential informants and operating units.
He added that the arrests disrupted the distribution of illegal drugs in Iloilo’s 5th District and parts of Capiz.
The arrested suspects face charges for alleged violations of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Police are continuing efforts to locate the three suspects who escaped.
