BACOLOD City – Four more members of the Grupo Progreso headed by incumbent Mayor Evelio Leonardia bolted from the group to join the opposition under former Negros Occidental 3rd district congressman Alfredo Benitez who has declared his intention to run for this city’s mayor.
Those who resigned from GP are three-term councilor Caesar Distrito, incumbent councilors Bart Orola and Simple Distrito, and Pao Sy, daughter of the late Councilor Elmer Sy.
Distrito made the announcement via Facebook live during the weekend and confirmed that he has accepted Benitez’s invitation to run for vice mayor.
He also announced that at least two more members from GP will resign.
Earlier, Councilor Al Victor Espino bolted from GP due to trust issues on the part of his partymates, him being a close friend of Benitez.
