ROXAS City – The local government here accepted 2,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines donated by the Gerry Roxas Foundation (GRF) and former senator and secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II.
Roxas City Mayor Ronnie Dadivas, Board Member Thea Faith Reyes and first district Rep. Emmanuel “Tawi” Billones accepted the donation.
In his message, Roxas said he is also finding ways to help the city beef up its vaccine supply even if he is already a private citizen.
The doses will be allocated to market vendors, tricycle and jeepney drivers, workers in restaurants and parlors and high-risk workers who are exposed to the general population.
“By protecting them, we are protecting both their families and their livelihood,” Mar Roxas said.
This is only the first batch of COVID vaccines that Roxas is procuring for this city. He continues to look and negotiate for available supplies for the next batch.
Mayor Dadivas thanked the GRF and Sec. Mar Roxas for their concern for Roxas City.
Dadivas said the donated vaccines will help the city’s economy slowly recover from the effects of the pandemic.
This is the first time that the city received vaccines donated by the private sector.
Capiz has recorded more than 9,000 cases with 438 deaths since the COVID-19 pandemic erupted in 2020.
