ROXAS CITY, Capiz—Former Roxas City mayor Angel Alan B. Celino announced he will not run for mayor or any elective position in next year’s midterm elections, putting an end to speculations about his return to politics.
Celino made the statement during a press conference on Friday afternoon, August 23, at Veronica Hotel in Pueblo de Panay.
He aimed to dispel rumors that he might challenge the re-election bid of incumbent Mayor Ronnie Dadivas, who is serving his third and final term as the city’s chief executive.
Celino expressed his gratitude to former Senator Mar Roxas and his family for their support during his nine consecutive years as mayor of Roxas City.
“I don’t want to be called ‘ingrato’ or ungrateful to those who helped me complete my three terms as mayor,” he said, adding that he plans to devote his time to his family and business.
Instead of running, Celino stated he would support the political bid of Pinuno Party-list Representative Howard Guintu, who is aiming for a seat in the First District of Capiz in next year’s elections.
