Precios Angel Arellado, 27, of Barangay Pili, Ajuy, Iloilo, was believed to be drunk when the incident happened.
Staff Sergeant Noel Demalinao, Ajuy traffic police investigator, said Arellado was driving a motorcycle from the town proper to her house when the mishap occurred.
As she was navigating Barangay San Antonio, Ajuy around 3 a.m. on Friday, she allegedly hit a gutter. She was thrown to a roadside swampy rice field.
Ireen Mae Cacho and Zhed Gumban reported to have seen a Honda XRM 125 motorcycle on the road shoulder and Arellado’s body on the rice field.
Members of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) took her to Sara District Hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.
Police investigators said that Arellado, a part-time teacher at Estancia, Iloilo, may have fallen asleep while driving.
