Food inflation in Guimaras accelerates to 12% in February

The rate in the rise of food prices in Guimaras in February 2023 accelerated to 12 percent, faster than the 9.2 percent in January and 8.8 percent quicker than the 3.2 percent food inflation rate in February 2022, according to the Retail Price Survey of Commodities for the Generation of the Consumer Price Index of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

The data revealed that the 12 percent food inflation in February 2023 was the
second-highest food inflation rate since February 2022 and the highest in six months since September 2022. (See Figure 1)

“Vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas and pulses commodity with an inflation rate of 41.1 percent in February shared 50.9 percent to inflation trend,” Provincial Statistics Officer Nelida B. Losare said.

“Likewise, the 4.3 percent inflation of Rice; and 10.4 annual price increment of Fish and Other Seafood cut a 24.9 and 19.3 percent share, respectively, to the February 2023 food inflation,” Losare added.

Other food items which contributed to the uptrend of the February 2023 food inflation in Guimaras were Oils and fats (26.7%); Milk, Other Dairy Products, and Eggs (12.0%); and Flour, Bread, and Other Bakery Products, Pasta Products, and Other Cereals (3.6%).
