The International Builders Corp. (IBC) has been awarded the contract to construct a cruise terminal for the Port of Alegria in Buruanga, Aklan, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) Bids and Awards Committee announced.
Among the 12 bidders, IBC submitted the lowest calculated bid at P743.97 million.
In its invitation to bid earlier this May, PPA’s approved budget for the cruise ship port contract was P747.59 million.
The project features include a rock causeway with an area of 1,465.73 square meters, a port operational area, and a reinforced concrete pier and platform.
The Port of Alegria is among the active seaports in Aklan, serving passenger vessels to and from Caticlan, Aklan, and the towns of San Jose and Roxas in Mindoro.
The port development is part of the PPA’s efforts to enhance infrastructure for cruise ships in anticipation of a surge in tourist arrivals.
Meanwhile, it is notable that IBC is also the contractor for the two embattled flyovers located in Pavia town in Iloilo—Ungka and Aganan Flyovers.
The Ungka flyover is currently undergoing rectification work due to structural defects, while the adjacent Aganan flyover is set for third-party consultation after its construction was suspended in December 2022.
