Flood early warning systems installed in rivers

BACOLOD CITY – The Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) has recently installed a Community-based Flood Early Warning System (CBFEWS) along the rivers in this city.

This is part of their measures in closely monitoring river levels and rainfall.

The locations are rivers in Lupit, Mandalagan, Sum-ag, and Magsungay, and Banago, and Mambuloc creeks.

This system would enable the authorities to quickly notify residents of rising water levels, allowing for prompt and effective responses.

According to the city government, the new system is part of a broader initiative to strengthen disaster preparedness and resilience in the city.

The DRRMO encourages all residents to stay informed and heed warnings issued through this system, particularly during the rainy season.

Meanwhile, more than 400 sacks or around 4,694 kilos of garbage were collected in a community coastal clean-up last week, in partnership with residents and officials of Barangay 2 here.

One kilo of rice was provided by the Office of the AbangLingkod Partylist in exchange of a sack of garbage.

This is part of the continuous effort of the Bacolod Environment and Natural Resources Office to clean up the Mambulok creek.

Declogging and clearing of a creek from Purok Avocado to Purok Tisa of Barangay 20 here were also conducted last week to widen the creek for better water flow.
