Flood affects 12 villages in Sigma

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – 12 barangays of Sigma, Capiz were flooded due to rains caused by low pressure areas (LPAs) over the weekend.
Based on data from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO-Sigma), among the affected villages are Capuyhan, Mangoso, Guintas, Bangonbangon, Mansacul, Pinamalatican, Tawog and Poblacion Sur.
Water also overflowed in barangays Dayhagon and Cogon, including Purok 2 and Purok 7 in Poblacion Norte.
Sigma Mayor Christopher Andaya said floods have been a perennial problem of the town.
Rice farmers were affected as floods damaged their rice crops and it took two to three weeks for the water to subside.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Agriculturalist Office has yet to submit its assessment report on the affected agricultural sectors.
Provincial agriculturist Sylvia dela Cruz said some towns in the first and second districts of Capiz were also affected.
