Five persons were caught in another police operation against illegal cockfighting in Janiuay, Iloilo on April 21, 2021.
Police identified the suspects as Christian Lozada, 26, of Barangay Jayubo, Lambunao, Iloilo; Kim Malco, 37, Romnick Malco, 33, and Rene Lasañas, 36, all of Barangay Canauili, Janiuay; and Ariel Lasanas, 40, of Barangay Pangilihan, Janiuay.
Members of the Iloilo Police Provincial Police Office-Provincial Special Operations Group (IPPO-PSOG) and Janiuay Police Station swooped down on the illegal cockpit at Barangay Anhawan and caught the five suspects.
Captain Francis Albert Fortunado, IPPO-PSOG team leader, said several others were able to evade arrest.
Recovered from their possession and control were four dead fighting cocks, 11 gaff blades, a notebook, five bayong baskets, two live fighting cocks, and P7,680 bet money.
There have been several arrests made in the past weeks as police heightened the operations against cockfighting, which remains to be illegal.
The government will only give permit to operations of online sabong.
