Five persons were arrested for cockfighting Sunday morning in Kalibo, Aklan.
Police identified the suspects as Leonardo Cawaling, 56; Joel Mutos, 55; Johnny dela Cruz, 40; Nino Paredes, 35; and Reynaldo Beltran, 43.
All are residents of Barangay Linabuan Norte, where they were also arrested.
The Kalibo Police Station received a telephone call alleging that a group of men were participating in a cockfighting activity in the area.
Police led by Lieutenant Alona Layson proceeded to the area to verify the information. True enough, they caught the suspects red-handed.
But some of them fled, leaving behind the five arrested suspects.
Recovered from the five were P3,330 bet money, two fighting cocks, six gaffs, and several pairs of slippers.
The suspects are now detained and will be charged for violation of Presidential Decree 449 (Cockfighting Law of 1974).
