BACOLOD City – Five persons, including a police officer, were injured after a tricycle driver figured in three separate road accidents when he allegedly evaded the cop during curfew hours in Bago City, Negros Occidental on Sunday.
Injured were Police Staff Master Sergeant Agustin Alicante, 39, assigned at Bago City Police Station; non-uniformed personnel Joel De Jose, 24, assigned at La Carlota City Police Station; Aaron Pagunsan, 40; and Kenneth Dela Torre, 24.
Police Major John Joel Batusbatusan, city police chief, said the accidents happened when tricycle driver Roberto Ricarte Jr., 31, of Pulupandan town was flagged down by Alicante to check his documents since he was traveling beyond 10 p.m.
But instead of heeding the officer, Ricarte fled and allegedly sideswiped Alicante, Batusbatusan said.
Ricarte, who was with Dela Torre as his passenger, also allegedly sideswiped a motorcycle driven by De Jose before colliding with a pick-up truck driven by Pagunsan.
Ricarte suffered injuries and is still confined at the hospital.
Batusbatusan said that Ricarte will be charged for his offense.
He said that they are still probing Ricarte’s reason for escaping.
