Department of Agriculture Office of the Assistant Secretary for the Visayas in collaboration with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources 6, turned over 10 fiberglass reinforced plastic boats to fisher folks in coastal barangays in Iloilo City Sept. 22.
“I express my gratitude to Department of Agriculture and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources for providing fishing boats to our fishermen. This is a great help to them because they are one of affected sectors of this pandemic. We will find more ways on how to help the agricultural sector in the city,” Mayor Jerry P. Treñas said.
DA Asst. Secretary to the Visayas Atty. Hansel O. Didulo told beneficiaries to have a sense of responsibility and ownership; and to use the boats given to them responsibly and progressively.
The boats are complete with gasoline engines and fishing gears. Beneficiaries will also receive additional fishing nets.
The lucky recipients sent their letters of intent to Didulo’s Office, and were screened for validation.
The program aims to deliver support for capacity and livelihood enhancement to fisher folks, reduce poverty incidence amid the pandemic, and to promote modernization of fishery practices through provision of fishing gears. (Beatriz Angelica Pequierda/Iloilo City PIO/Photo by Arnold Almacen)
