Fish industrialist to address 2019 graduates of UP Visayas

FRANCISCO Tiu Laurel, president of Frabelle Fishing Corp, will address the 40th Commencement Exercises of UP-Visayas on June 27, 2019, 1:30 pm, at the UP Visayas Miagao campus.
Candidates for bachelors, masters, and PhDs will be jointly conferred their degrees during the ceremony.
This year’s batch of bachelor graduates is the last batch to have undergone the 4-year high school curricula after the recently implemented K-12 curriculum that requires students to finish the additional two years of the senior high school program.
This year’s graduates are expected to be inspired by Tiu Laurel, a hands-on entrepreneur trained in the laborious skills of refrigeration, net manufacturing, engine overhauling, electronics, hydraulics, food manufacturing, shipbuilding, and ship repair. He is also competent in many real-life situations in the field of fishing.
Tiu Laurel has worked in the fishing, seafood processing and aquaculture industry for nearly three decades. His company, Frabelle Fishing Corp, has become one of the largest seafood companies in the Philippines and Asia Pacific.
He holds positions in the food industry businesses and allied services in the countries of Japan, South Africa, Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore, China, Papua New Guinea, and the Solomon Island.
Tiu Laurel has been invited in various tuna conferences locally and internationally as a speaker. He was also a panelist in the Coral Triangle Initiative hosted by National Geographic Society.
He graduated the degree in Computer Science from the University of Santo Tomas. He is currently affiliated with organizations such as Organization for the Promotion of Responsible Tuna Fisheries, Bangus Council of the Philippines, Inter-Island Deep Sea Fishing Association, World Tuna Purse Seiner Organization as Director.
