FIRST DAY AND ALL… Jobseekers flock vice-guv’s office

BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer said requests for employment flooded his first day of work at the provincial capitol here.

Ferrer told reporters in a press briefing on July 1, 2019 that his phone was also flooded with pleas from jobseekers.

He said he will determine how many he can employ using his budget.

“We will try to help as many as we can but we also have to consider our budget limitation,” Ferrer said.

Ferrer also shared that he also has to adjust to his new work schedule.

As a former 3-term congressman of the 4th district, Ferrer said he wakes up late in the morning as their session at the House starts 4 p.m.

“But this time I have to wake early to be here early,” he said.

As to contractual workers who were not rehired by the provincial government, Ferrer said it is more of an executive function.

Ferrer said one reason for the issue is budgetary constraints. But he assured Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson that he will cooperate with the current administration’s decisions.

Ferrer also revealed that the Sangguniang Panlalawigan members are finalizing the committee chairmanships.

He assured that the SP will do away with political labelling.

“We are working for one Negros so we should set aside politics and push for the advancement of Negros as the battle cry for Lacson’s administration is ‘Abanse Negros’,” he added.
