BACOLOD City – The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) here reported its first firecracker-related incident, victimizing a tricycle driver in Bago City, Negros Occidental on Christmas Day, Dec. 25.
According to a report from Nocppo released to the media on Dec. 26, the 45-year-old victim from Barangay Sampinit had a drinking session with his relative when his brother reportedly lit a whistle bomb.
But the firecracker exploded in the victim’s right hand when he picked it up.
He was taken to Bago City Hospital and was later transferred to a private hospital here.
Meanwhile, Police Lieutenant Judesses Catalogo, public information officer of Nocppo, said they have not recorded any significant incident related to the celebration of Christmas. “It was generally peaceful,” he added.
Catalogo said the early deployment of policemen, the involvement of the stakeholders, and the cooperation of the public can be attributed to the peaceful Christmas celebration.
The public opted to celebrate Christmas in the most peaceful manner, he added.
He also said that the cold weather has a major effect as the atmosphere is subtle.
