BACOLOD City – The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is probing the cause of a fire that razed two business establishments at Locsin Luzuriaga Streets here yesterday.
According to a witness in the area, he saw sparks from an electrical post. A cloud of thick smoke was then seen billowing from a building.
The blaze broke out around 8:35 a.m. on the third floor of a three-storey building.
Firefighters were supposed to declare fire out at around 11 a.m. but the fire spread to the adjacent building through the ceiling.
The alarm status was raised to second alarm, necessitating a response from nearby fire stations.
Chief Inspector Rodel Legaspi, city fire marshal, said that it took them more than five hours to combat the fire as the items in the two buildings were combustible materials.
The road was also closed to motorists for several hours until the area was cleared.
The fire was placed under control around 3 p.m. and fire out was declared before 5 p.m.
The BFP has yet to provide other details on the incident. Investigation is ongoing.
