BACOLOD City – At least 31 houses were affected by a fire at Purok Magtiayon, Barangay 10 here yesterday.
Chief Inspector Rodel Legaspi, city fire marshal, said that 21 houses were destroyed while 10 others were damaged.
Legaspi said the fire broke out around 11:53 a.m. from the house of a certain Edson Lorania, 42, situated in the middle area.
The blaze immediately spread to neighboring houses made of mixed concrete and light materials, he added.
Lorania’s house was reportedly empty when the fire occurred.
The fire was raised to third alarm after three minutes, as firefighters had difficulty penetrating the affected area due to strong winds and narrow passageways.
“Madlos hangin tapos dikit-dikit gid iban na pamalay, congested na,” Legaspi said.
Despite this, Legaspi said they were able to immediately contain the fire to prevent it from spreading to other areas.
No injuries were reported while fire out was declared around 12:46 p.m.
Legaspi said they have yet to determine the cause of the fire that left an estimated P155,000 worth of damage.
