Fire hits high school

BACOLOD City – The principal of Mansilingan Agro-Industrial High School (MAIHS) in Barangay Mansilingan here is asking for bond paper donations for the modules of students in preparation for the opening of classes next week.

This, after three classrooms of MAIHS were razed by fire around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday that broke out in the temporary stock room.

Chief Inspector Rodel Legaspi, city fire marshal, said the fire burned reams of bond papers and other materials at the stock room then spread to neighboring rooms beside the old library.

Legaspi said a security guard called the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

Legaspi said they are initially looking into an electrical problem as possible cause of the blaze which gobbled P200,000 worth of properties, based on initial estimates.

He said the building is very old. “Napalibutan siya sang cement but ang kisame light materials,” he added.

The BFP declared fire out past midnight. No injuries were reported.

Meanwhile, Michael Divinagracia, school principal III, said they need reams of bond paper for the printing of modules in the coming weeks.

Aside from this, science laboratory equipment amounting to almost P1 million were also gutted, he said.

Divinagracia also warned the public to report persons who post on social media asking for donations for the school via bank account.

He said they opted to receive bond paper instead, donations may be directly sent to the school.
